Discover the Finnish Päijät-Häme Living Lab: Now Available in the Local Language

The Waste4Soil Project is pleased to share a new spotlight on the Finnish Päijät-Häme Living Lab, with its video now available in the local language.

Located in Southern Finland, the Päijät-Häme region brings together 10 municipalities and provides an important space for collaboration between researchers, local stakeholders, and regional actors. Within the Waste4Soil Project, the Living Lab is exploring innovative solutions to transform food-processing residues into valuable soil improvers.

Giving New Value to Grain and Fish Residues

The Finnish Living Lab focuses on two key types of food-processing residues:

  • Grain residues

  • Fish residues

Working together with LAB University of Applied Sciences and local stakeholders, researchers are investigating how these materials can be recovered and transformed into innovative solutions that support healthier and more resilient soils.

By bringing together research, innovation, and regional cooperation, the Living Lab aims to demonstrate how resources that would otherwise be considered waste can become valuable inputs for more circular and sustainable agri-food systems.

Innovation Through Collaboration

Living Labs play a central role in the Waste4Soil Project by creating real-life environments where researchers, farmers, businesses, public authorities, and other stakeholders can work together to test and develop innovative solutions.

The Päijät-Häme Living Lab is a strong example of this collaborative approach. Through close cooperation with regional actors, the initiative explores practical pathways for recovering valuable resources from food-processing residues while contributing to the restoration and improvement of soil health.
