Waste4Soil partner at the Instytut Uprawy Nawożenia i Gleboznawstwa - PIBon has organized the kick-off workshop in Poland on the 5th of March 2024.
The event took place in the Lublin Voivodeship, in the village of Siedliszczki in an agricultural biogas plant, which is located next to a dairy.
The workshop started with a visit to an agricultural biogas plant (demonstration of food processing residues (FPR) processing technology). The biogas is generated from wastes (mostly) from the food industry (vegetables, apple juice pomace, beet pulp, dairy whey). The participants of the event had a chance to get familiar with the history of the plant, substrates used for biogas generation, digestate management, and technical aspects of biogas and electricity generation.
The aim was to support collaboration in the creation of a sustainable Living Lab. Key participants in the event were: representatives of the food industry, bio-waste management, farm owners, and citizens, who were first introduced to a very good example of bio-waste management in agriculture, and then together the possibilities of integrating different stakeholder groups were discussed.
