The Institut de Recerca i Tecnologia Agroalimentàries (IRTA) is a public research institution, part of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Environment of the Government of Catalonia. IRTA’s mission is to contribute to modernising, improving, boosting competitiveness, and fostering sustainable development in the sectors of: i) agriculture, ii) animal and plant production, iii) food technology, iv) agroforestry, v) aquaculture, vi) fisheries, vii) agro-food economy and vii) environment and global change, with the aim of consolidating a sustainable bio-based economy. IRTA has a portfolio of projects under way that are financed by the Institute itself, regional institutions, Spanish organisations or international ones, as the European Community and others. A key area of research at IRTA is the jointed agronomic and environmental approach of the agricultural production; the goal is to provide tools to manage properly these systems in order to promote the Circular Agriculture.
Main Role:
The IRTA role consist of the contribution to co-coordinate taks dealieng with the characterization of materials to be used in the manufacture of products. Also, the IRTA team will produce organic fertilizers to be used as soil improvers. IRTA is also leading a living lab implementation in Catalonia.
