The Catalan Living Lab at the 4th Congrés BIT – Advancing the Circular Bioeconomy

On April 8–9, the Catalan Living Lab (proudly represented the WASTE4SOIL project at the 4th BIT Congress in Vic. The event provided a dynamic space to explore innovative pathways in the circular bioeconomy and its crucial role in rural development and resilient landscapes.

The first day, organized in partnership with ERIAFF, brought together international voices to exchange on transformative innovation across agriculture, food, and forestry.

The second day emphasized how the valorization of ecosystem services can underpin the growth of a sustainable and inclusive bioeconomy.

A key message throughout the congress was the importance of addressing bioeconomy strategies at the local management level. To develop truly sustainable and circular processes, it is essential to incorporate the perspective of primary producers, whose knowledge and experience are critical in shaping effective and realistic solutions. The event highlighted the need for inclusive approaches that empower rural stakeholders and ensure their active participation in the transition to a bio-based economy.

During the congress, we had the opportunity to engage with leading professionals and institutions, gaining valuable insights and exchanging ideas on current challenges and innovations. We were also proud to present a poster featuring the latest data from the experimental work carried out in the Catalonia Living Lab, specifically within the biogas route.

This congress aligns perfectly with the objectives of the Waste4Soil project, as both initiatives focus on adding value to agrifood industry residues. The shared aim is to recirculate these resources within the system, enabling farmers and livestock producers themselves to benefit from the transformation of waste into valuable products.
