Waste4Soil Contributes to Key White Paper on Alternative Feedstock for Biobased Plastics

The Waste4Soil project  is pleased to share that Miriam Lorenzo Navarro from ITENE, a partner of the Waste4Soil project, has contributed to a significant white paper titled: “Alternative Feedstock for Biobased Plastics: Bridging the Gap Between Research and the Market.”

This white paper was prepared in collaboration with several EU-funded projects: LUCRA, BioSupPack, CAFIPLA – Combining carboxylic acid production and fibre recovery, MoeBIOS, and the PERCAL Project, as part of the European Bioplastics Talk Series 2024 on Alternative Feedstock. With the wrapping-up event on 16 October 2024, the experts of these projects gathered in Brussels to propose highlights and recommendations for policymaking at the final live event of the series.

These projects have been supported by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programmes, alongside their respective European Partnerships: the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) and the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU).

This contribution highlights the strong synergy between research, innovation, and market application, emphasizing the importance of alternative feedstock in advancing sustainable bioplastic solutions.

The white paper presents how biowaste can be a suitable source of feedstock, transformed into building blocks for biobased plastics, and ultimately pave the way to a sustainable future. It provides insights into the production of biobased monomers and biopolymers from biowaste and how the sorting and waste management systems can be enhanced for bioplastics recycling.
