We are pleased to present our sixth Living Lab, established in the region of Catalonia, Spain.
The Catalan Living Lab is a collaborative initiative that brings together diverse stakeholders to co-create context-based solutions for more sustainable food systems. The Living Lab aims to enhance knowledge and build capacities for the re-use of food industry waste, transforming organic by-products into valuable soil improvers that contribute to healthier soils and circular economy practices.
The initiative focuses on the valorisation of several important organic residue streams generated by regional agri-food industries, including:
- Pig slurry
- Brewery spent grain (clean and mixed)
- Vinasse and grape pomace from wine production
- By-products from pig slaughterhouses
- Olive cultivation residues, including pruning waste
Through these activities, the Living Lab promotes innovative and sustainable pathways for local industries to convert organic residues into high-quality soil improvers. These efforts contribute directly to improved soil health, resource efficiency, and nutrient recycling.
