Waste4Soil Project at Biostimulant World Congress

From 1 to 4 December 2025, our partner Leitat Technological Center showcased cutting-edge research at the Biostimulants World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Spain, one of the leading international events dedicated to biostimulants and sustainable agricultural solutions.

During the congress, Sandra Balsells Claramunt presented Leitat’s work focused on innovative enzymatic processes to recover the protein fraction from porcine by-products (Category 2, EC 1069/2009). The research demonstrates how these by-products can be efficiently transformed into protein hydrolysates for agricultural use, contributing to resource efficiency and waste valorisation.

Key highlights of the research include:

  • Up to 70% protein recovery achieved through enzymatic treatment
  • High degree of hydrolysis into peptides and amino acids (including LEU, ALA, VAL, PHE, LYS, and ILE)
  • Strong potential to valorise porcine by-products into high-value biostimulants

This work, developed within the framework of the Waste4Soil Project, strongly supports circular economy principles and contributes to the advancement of sustainable agriculture by promoting innovative solutions that enhance soil health and crop productivity.

The Biostimulants World Congress provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge with international experts and stakeholders, and to explore future trends in biostimulants and soil-friendly technologies. Waste4Soil partners remain committed to driving innovation that supports resilient, productive, and sustainable agricultural systems.
