The University of Ljubljana, Biotechnical Faculty, partner of the Waste4Soil project, participated on 16th and 17th October 2025 in the Biotechnical Days 2025 held at the Technical Museum of Slovenia (Tehniški muzej Slovenije) in Bistra, Slovenia.
As part of the event, the University team delivered a presentation introducing visitors to the research and innovation activities currently being carried out within the framework of the Waste4Soil project. The presentation focused particularly on the role of microalgae in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and advancing circular economy solutions.
Research at the Biotechnical Faculty is dedicated to developing innovative, sustainable, and circular agricultural systems that improve resource efficiency, strengthen food security, and enhance living conditions in rural areas.
The team presented their work on the development of a microalgae cultivation systemin collaboration with AlgEn, that uses a nutrient medium derived from conditioned digestate from a biogas plant. The cultivated and harvested microalgae are then used to produce plant biostimulants, whose effects in agriculture and horticulture are currently under active investigation.
This initiative illustrates how science and innovation can contribute to sustainable soil management, supporting the broader mission of the Waste4Soil project — to foster healthier soils and more resilient agricultural systems across Europe.
