On 15 May 2025, our project partner KOTO hosted the partners of the Clear Cities Project, providing a hands-on look at practical and innovative approaches to circular economy and sustainable waste management, in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
During the event, Lea Lavrič presented the Waste4Soil Project, highlighting how biogas is produced from catering waste at KOTO’s state-of-the-art biogas plant. This process exemplifies a core principle of the circular economy: transforming waste into valuable resources.
The visit also included a guided tour led by Danilo Lenart, who showcased KOTO’s sustainable operations, including:
- Processing of animal by-products
- Efficient management of biodegradable waste
- Use of biofilters for emission control
- Biological wastewater treatment technology
These processes demonstrate how integrated waste and organic by products management systems can align with environmental protection, resource efficiency, and sustainable development goals.
Strengthening Partnerships for a Circular Future
Events like this are essential for fostering knowledge exchange and building synergies between projects that share a vision of a more sustainable and resource-efficient Europe. KOTO’s ongoing collaboration with Waste4Soil is a clear demonstration of how industrial partners can contribute to the development and adoption of bio-based fertilizers and waste-to-resource solutions.
